Summer Program Opportunities
Students have many opportunities to keep their minds and bodies active this summer. See below for three different program opportunities filled with different classes.
Summer Scholars: Explore. Create. Connect.
Registration is now open for MPS’ summer program: Summer Scholars! Enroll your student in Summer Scholars to experience more this summer through innovative, immersive experiences that challenge your child to explore a world of possibilities both in and out of the classroom.
They’ll learn as they forge their own path, dream up new ideas, and find meaning in everything they create. All this as they discover endless ways to connect with one another and their interests. Many courses are available for students in PreK-12th grade through our five academies:
- Discovery and Learning Academy (in person for grades PreK-4)
- GEMS/GISE STEM Academy (in person for grades PreK-7)
- Virtual STEM Academy (online for grades K-7)
- Fast-Track Academy (in person for 8th graders going into 9th grade in the fall)
- Credit Academy (in person for grades 9-12)
Find out more at our website: SummerScholarsMPS.org. Register by May 7 for transportation beginning the first day, if eligible.

COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Expanded to all Minnesotans 16+
Every Minnesotan 16 years of age and older is now eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccination. Shots are still not widely available due to limited supplies, but supplies are expected to increase. Use the link at the top right corner to find information in Spanish, Hmong or Somali.
COVID-19 Emergency Rent and Utility Bill Assistance
Families that need help paying rent or utility bills may be eligible for COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance. While you can't be evicted for not paying rent during Gov. Walz's executive order, rent is still due. When the order is lifted, people owing unpaid rent could be at risk for eviction.
Eligible Minneapolis renters with rent and utility bills dated on or after March 13, 2020 could receive up to 15 months of assistance. Downloading this checklist to see if you're eligible and to see which documents you'll need when the program opens for applications later this month.
